" 'Twas Nochebuena"
by Roseanne Greenfield Thong

This is quite a holiday treat, especially for all my fellow Latinos who, like me, never opened presents on Christmas morning because the huge celebration was actually Christmas Eve!

Written in the poetic rhythm of “The Night Before Christmas”, this book is a sweet, lyrical blend of English and Spanish, telling a story of how one multigenerational family celebrates Nochebuena (Christmas Eve).  It highlights their various family traditions, including decorating and meal prep for their special dinner,  a Christmas Eve church service, caroling from home to home , and unwrapping presents at the end of the night.

What’s also wonderful is how easily any family can relate, regardless of their country of origin.  It can lead to great discussions on how your family celebrates Christmas.  For instance, in our Puerto Rican culture, we eat pasteles instead of tamales or what they call posadas are similar to parrandas, which are similar to Christmas caroling.

The vibrant illustrations are also warm and inviting! ” ‘Twas Nochebuena” is a precious part of our Christmas basket of treasured reads that we get to enjoy every year!
